President's Message

I believe Spring is finally here after that wonderful snow storm on the day of our Director’s Course!  I would like to express the Board’s thanks to all those who braved the weather and attended.  We had an excellent and impromptu session on forms and meetings, which was very timely.  Speaking of time, I am hopeful that you have all spent enough time working through the forms to master them and have invested your time in the director’s training on line via the CAO.   I feel that all directors and participants in the industry have been called upon to go beyond their usual commitment to board life in order to better understand the intention of the changes to the legislation and its application to condominium communities in Ontario.  Change is never easy and it takes time.  In one of our recent discussions with government representatives about the forms, we all agreed that these changes will be part of a an organic process, an evolution much like the growth and development that Spring brings in Ontario. The Condominium Authority of Ontario: Supporting Condominium Communities through Director Training
In addition to the changes to the Condominium Act, 1998, the Ontario Government has also introduced through Bill 106 new legislation that regulates and licenses property managers and those that provide condominium management services.   

This new legislation is called the Condominium Management Services Act, 2015  (CMS Act) and it creates a mandatory licensing system for those that provide condominium management, requires mandatory training and education and develops  a code of ethics for condo managers and providers.   The CMS Act is in force as of November 1, 2017 and licensing will be mandatory as of this date. READ MORE.

 

What is CondoSTRENGTH in Huronia?

As an additional feature/benefit to condominium corporation Directors of CCI Huronia, a local chapter of a CCI National initiative called CondoSTRENGTH has been created.  The concept is “For Directors, by Directors.”  This involves occasional meetings between various condo Directors to meet and discuss matters of common interest and to share experiences and learn from each other.  As such, it is a true “peer group” concept.  READ MORE.
