Welcome to 2018.  CCI Huronia has an exciting year of education planned and we kicked off our year with our Condo 101 course.  Thanks to those directors for participating and for asking great questions. 

With the introduction of changes to the Condominium Act, 1998 and the creation of the Condominium Authority of Ontario and the Tribunal, together with the Condominium Management Regulatory Authority of Ontario, this is going to be an interesting year to be a director, manager and service provider in the condominium industry. With the enhancement of the Condominium Act, 1998, by the launch of both the Protecting Condominium Owner’s Act (PCOA), 2015, and the Condominium Management Services Act (CMSA), 2015, condominium owners and the property management industry are both facing new expenses that fall outside existing budgets. Licensing of Property Managers and Impact on Self Managed Condos and their Directors
 

In addition to the changes to the Condominium Act, 1998, the Ontario Government has also introduced through Bill 106 new legislation that regulates and licenses property managers and those that provide condominium management services.   

This new legislation is called the Condominium Management Services Act, 2015  (CMS Act) and it creates a mandatory licensing system for those that provide condominium management, requires mandatory training and education and develops  a code of ethics for condo managers and providers.   The CMS Act is in force as of November 1, 2017 and licensing will be mandatory as of this date.
